Campaign Priorities
My campaign priorities are aligned with the current District 65 Board Strategic Plan enacted in spring 2020, which are:
Why Ndona?
Fiscal responsibility
As a District 65 Board Member, I must ensure that investments being made at the District level lead to the highest quality learning environments and experiences for all students. This means being good stewards of taxpayer dollars and using Values-Based Budgeting while focusing our budget decisions to meet the changing needs of our students.
Academic excellence
Academic excellence in education is possible when all students have access, equity, and opportunity.
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)
Diversity = representation
Equity = every student receives fair and equal access to opportunities and advancements regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, ability, income, language, or immigration status
Inclusion = ensures every student is treated fairly and respectfully, despite differences.
Belonging = centers around the students' experience of feeling accepted in the school environment.
Advocacy for marginalized families
A great deal of my life's work in volunteerism has been to advocate for the underserved, including emergent language learners, immigrants/refugees, children with disabilities, and SPED children, and helping their parents to navigate the educational system. I believe we can reduce systemic barriers for these children while striving to meet all children's educational needs.
My priorities
-
Academic/Opportunity Gap
-
Support for English language learners
-
Lagging literacy of Black, Latino, and low-income students
-
Culturally relevant curriculum
-
SPED and education and support for students with disabilities
-
A safe, yet welcoming school environment
As a District 65 School Board member I will evaluate and refine these initiatives and support additional plans to make sure all students are given the education they deserve.
